ALL.FILMS.LOOK.ALIKE COMPETITION FINALISTS SELECTED
December 24, 2009 -Eight competitors have been selected to the final round of the All.Films.Loook.Alike (AFLA) amateur filmmakers competition, organized by the Amman Filmmakers Cooperative. The purpose of using one script for all AFLA competitors is to free the directors from getting bogged down by scriptwriting, so they can focus on their directorial skills instead. It also gives the competing filmmakers and their coaches the chance to assess their filmmaking skills in a more comparative and objective manner and to learn from other filmmakers' techniques. This is also an opportunity for the Cooperative to discover new raw talents in need of special attention.
Announced back in November during the Jordan Short Film Festival '09, the AFLA will be a periodic competition that will take place more than once per year. The concept behind the AFLA competition is to level the playing field by having all the participating amateur filmmakers shoot a short film based on the same script. Even though the competition targets amateur filmmakers, it's open to anyone who wants to join the fun.
Some of the amateur filmmakers have participated in various workshops by the Amman Filmmakers Cooperative. This might explain the differences in technical skills. Two AFLA winners will be announced. One winner will be selected from the refugee camps and will take home 100 Euros. The other winner from the Ghour Mazra'ah who will take home 100 Euros.

"Why don't you understand"
NOTE: This is a simplified script stripped of any formal screenplay formatting. Filmmakers are free to interpret this text within reason when shooting their films. Refer to other published rules and regulations for this competition. If you use female actresses, you can replace the names of Khalil and Yusuf and Ali with Reem and Sawsan and Fatima.
Yusuf and Ali sit together and study. Before them there is a stack of books. Both are busy reading when Khalil joins them. They exchange greetings and return their readings. Khalil just sits there.
Khalil's mobile phone rings so he picks it up and starts conversing and laughing with someone on the other line. Ali and Yusuf give him a look of disapproval. Khalil notices and turns off his cell phone. His friends go back to reading.
Khalil pulls out magazine with celebrity photos, vocally expressing his admiration of what he sees. Yousef and Ali give him a look of disapproval. Khalil folds the magazine hastily and shoves it back.
Ali hands Khalil a book. Khalil tries to impress his friends so he flips through the pages of the book aimlessly. Yusuf comes over and turns the book upside down to the proper position.
Khalil then goes to bring lunch for everyone. He gives Ali and Yousef sandwiches and juice bottles. After finishing his meal, Khalil throws the trash on the floor. Both Yousef and Ali give him a disapproving look. Khalil grabs the trash and chews on it.
Later on Khalil fetches a smoking sheesha (water smoke pipe) and starts smoking and fixing the red hot coals on the tobacco. Yousef and Ali give him a look of disproval. Noticing their resentment, Khalil takes the sheesha back. He then comes back and lights a cigarette. He takes a few puffs before noticing their hostile stares.
Khalil stuffs his face with cucumbers while Yousef and Ali go back to their studying.
